Background to the Festival
The sixth annual nationwide Adult Learners' Festival will take place from February 20th to February 24th 2012.
AONTAS would like you to get involved...
AONTAS believes that all adults in Ireland should have equal access to learning opportunities.We believe that adult learning has a hugely important role to play in the economic and social future of Ireland.We know that adult learners and adult learning centres do vital work on a daily basis.
The Adult Learners' Festival is about
- Celebrating adult learning and the achievements of adult learners
- Showcasing the work of adult education providers
- Promoting the work of AONTAS and the adult education sector
- Ensuring that adult education is placed firmly on the political agenda

How to get involved in the Festival
AONTAS would like as many groups and individuals as possible to get involved in the Adult Learners’ Festival.
Whether you are part of a large national organisation, small or large business or a local group, your participation will make the Festival a success. If you have an idea for an event during the Festival, contact AONTAS to discuss it further.
AONTAS will publicise your activities on this website, as well as helping you promote your event in the media. We will also feature Festival activities in a special issue of the AONTAS magazine, Explore, and in AONTAS press releases to the national media.
In the run-up to the AONTAS Adult Learners’ Festival, we will circulate posters and other publicity materials to all groups and individuals interested in becoming involved.

What's taking place during the Festival?
Your organisation can take part in the Festival by holding an event or marking the week in some way, whether it's a simple activity or an elaborate event.
You could also join forces with other organisations in your area to organise an event during the week, for example an information day.
Each day of the Festival has a theme as follows
Monday, 20th February 2012: Celebrate Learning
Tuesday, 21st February 2012: Green Learning
Wednesday, 22nd February 2012:Learning Communities
Thursday, 23rd February 2012: Learning for Work
Friday, 24th February 2012: Lobby for Learning Day
